The Tax Collector has absolutely nothing to do with assessing an improvement to a property and cannot estimate your tax liability.
When you receive a new assessment, for an improvement such as a dwelling, addition, garage, or deck you can get a general idea of what your taxes will be by using the following formula.
2010 Rates Change Yearly % of whole
Township Tax Millage - .00047 2%
County Tax Millage- .00415 17 %
School Tax Millage- .0197326 81%
Total X assessed value = face amount
You also need to understand that the taxing authorities can bill you from the date of Use & Occupancy. This can create bills for a partial prior year and the current tax year. Any future improvements can also create additional bills, but these bills are only based on the improvement.
A payment box is located inside the Township Building at 545 Broad Street Extd., to the left of the door as you enter.
Each municipality in York County has its own Tax Collector. Tax Collectors are independent and are only paid to mail out tax bills and collect payments.
